Babies

I was with my Baby Molly all weekend, not babysitting, just with family.  And as I observed, it was such a reminder that babies wake up with no agenda, except they are hungry and need to be changed. They care not about how they are dressed what is on the schedule for the day, or where they are, as love as they are with someone they know and love.  They are totally dependent on a guardian to care for them, dress them and carry them about from one spot to another.  They are constantly in view, so that they are guarded from potential danger. They crawl up, and climb up to the ones they know will cuddle them. They find contentment in the small things, like a solo cup or a plastic spoon.  And as they are being watched, they too are watching as we go about our chores, how we relate to others, how to do things and they mimmic by example.

Now all this to say, there are some definite similarities as to how babies relate to parents and how we are to relate to Christ, our overseerer.

1) We are to be dependent.
Psalm 62:7
My salvation and my honor depend on God ; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.

2) Trust that wherever God takes us, he will always be there.
Proverbs 3:4-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

3) God is watching us always
Psalm 33:14
from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth

4) We are to find contentment in the small things
Philippians 4:11
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.

5)The Lord protects us
2 Thessalonians 3:3
But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

6) By His example, we mimmic
Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

We all are but babies in the sight of the Lord. We are dependent upon his provisions, in need of his love, must trust in his ways, be content with what we have been given and live by his example.  As we grow we learn to seek his word, trust his plans,  and obey his commands. But we will never be mature enough to advance to perfection. For the lessons keep coming as we flounder around our own initiatives. As God is watching us and allowing us to fall and fail, he will continue to stay beside us and guide us through our own mistakes.   We will always need God's help to be better, for he is our continued source of courage, strength,  wisdom, perseverance, love and grace.  And just as we tuck away babies in our loving arms, God is doing the same with us.

Dear Lord, Help us to be comfortable in our dependence on you. Teach us lessons of trust, a desire for obedience and a heart to love others as you love us.  Amen
