My daughters were out of town for a few days...and Mel and I had custody of two grandsons Blake and Sam, and "privileges" with the other two Catherine and William ...we made out way about town on the rail, to the boat show on one day, church, Southwells, the carousel rides on another...and escalators wherever we would find them....but one of the new adventures was bungy jumping in the Galleria...I texted Jamie and she was a little hesitant until she found out they did not go upside down but then gladly agreed that it would be such a fun field trip......and then called Jennifer who had just gotten back in town to come and meet us. She and her husband Jon were both game.
It is a little daunting at first sight...kids hooked up to a harness frying thought the air, connected by bands of rubber with a trampoline as a baseboard. But Blake scoped it out and was in line before I even paid...Cathereine next and William who was a little hesitant at first kept his place in line if he should gain the courage to be hooked up. It would first have to be completely evaluated...then proof by watching his sister and cousin that all would be well. They had a blast...even William.
But just thinking about the logistics of this tethered "bungy" jumping and the tools that are involved....the trampoline, the tethered lines, the over seerer, the harness, the open space, the ability to jump high without worry or risk, the time factor (3 Minutes)....hit me. Isn't life with Christ a lot like this?
1) Trampoline...we jump according to our circumstances...and depending on the weight of the circumstances ...it determines how out high our anxiousness soars...
2) Tethered lines...it doesn't matter how high our emotions and our energies are lifted into the air due to circumstances...we are safely tethered by God's loving arms
3) God is not only watching our every move and monitoring us but he has the ability to manage our jumps
4) Harness...we have to be safely harnessed into God's word...trusting him to be faithful, and his word to be true.
5) Open space - God is limitless...and so is what he can do with and through our circumstances
6) No risk...if we truly believe that God is in control of all creation...then we are able to live in freedom without overwhelming concern that things are going to be all right in the end. That is the peace that we have when we submit to his will and his way....even when it doesn't make sense.
7) Time factor - God knows exactly and precisely how long we will be called to endure the circumstances that are before us...and his timing is perfect.
We just have to ride it out in trust and faith and seek his wisdom and accept his grace.
Psalm 75:3
When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm.
Proverbs 4:4
Then he taught me, and he said to me, "Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.
OK, it was bungy jumping.... but God is in the life jumps...and he is monitoring our moves, and he has given us a harness that will keep us safe. As long as we truly believe that we are in His sight and here for His glory and not our own...we too may cautiously and confidently approach the platform of what what life offers....and know that God is our overseer...he extends His bands of faith to us so that we are able to do what he has called us to do. and move in accordance with his nudges. He gives us the flexibility of free will...and encourages us to step out in confidence....knowing that we are securely tucked his mighty hands.
Praise God wherever you are and whatever situation He has allowed you to be in . . . His glory will shine through!
