Rescue

She is not quite two and is a fearless swimmer....without a float... but sometimes she likes to coast around in her floating ring. This is my grand daughter Catherine.Last week we were at the pool and the wind had blown her float over to a side of the pool that backed up to a high wall..so there were no sides to catch onto. At two, you expect there to be a bank in the pool no matter which side you are swimming on ...but this was an area she seldom frequented and only swam that direction to retrieve her float. We were sitting right there watching....and there was not a moment that she was in true danger....but she reached for the side, and couldn't find it and became instantly confused....not so much panicked but clearly searching for a secure holding place....Mom jumped in in all her clothes...and grabbed her and she was fine. She just wanted her floating ring....and had no idea what true danger she could have been in, if she had not been under the watchful eyes of those who loved her.

We find ourselves jumping into situations that are over our heads as well. And sometimes we get there while we are reaching for something familiar but the territory that it has landed in is unfamiliar. An example of this is a project that we undertake....be it a job that we are getting paid for, a job that we have volunteered for or a job that has fallen into our laps and no one else is there to contend with it.

It starts out fine but then there are complications...and the complications are what have a tendency to pull us under with no secure handle to hold onto in sight. Some of you are caretakers for parents and there are no clear answers for which way to turn or what decisions to make. Some are raising children and have issues that you have no manual for....or maybe you have been hurt deeply from a broken relationship, or you have a health issue that is making you feel vulnerable and unstable..or maybe there are financial currents that are stretching you beyond your abilities to cope comfortably....we all have something that pulls us into territory that is over our heads. And we all need to be rescued at one time or another.

2 Timothy 4:18
The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever

I watched as Jennifer watched and she knew when it was time to jump in for the save. Jesus is watching us...and sometimes we are so confused in our situations that we don't have the wits about us to be able to call for help...But God knows when we are deep and over our heads in trouble and in need of help...and he is there watching us and ready to jump in and rescue us. And he does rescue us....but too many times we just take the hand of rescue for granted instead of appreciating the watchful eye that has been upon us and the blessing of the hand that has reached for us.

Psalm 10:14
But you, O God do see trouble and grief, you consider it to take it in hand.

If you are in that floundering state of confusion today and feel like you are drowning in uncertaintity or fear....look up...and reach for the hand that is extended unto to you. It is the hand of Jesus....And he is there to rescue each of us no matter what situation we have gotten ourselves into....But upon rescue there are always lessons to be learned.

1) Know your bounds
2) Think about what it is you are reaching for....is it worth the risk
3) Don't swim alone
4) Be humble enough to accept help when it is offered
5) Be appreciative

She is only two....and does not recognize danger that is sometimes around her....she nees an overseer....thought we maybe up in years we too do not know the dangers that may be before us..and whether we acknowledge it or not we too need an overseer. Someone to guide us and direct us and give us wisdom to help us make "good" and timely choices. Jesus stands ready and watching....if only we would stand looking and seeking.

Dear Lord, Thank you for being our overseer and rescuer. May we abide by the wisdom that you so freely send our way. And when we find ourselves over our head in a situation may we remember to look up and reach for your hand of security. For it is there that we will find safety. Amen

Praise God wherever you are and whatever situation He has allowed you to be in . . . His glory will shine through!
