The grand kids were playing in the front yard...and Catherine (a couple of months short of being two) is my climber. She asked mom to help up get in the tree in front, as she has been there before and found it quite fun...but mom said that she didn't have the right shoes on (sandals)...for climbing...she was right those weren't the right shoes....but can she just stand on the branch...so I went and lifted her up and she was thrilled to be standing at the heights over everyone. I remember those tree climbing days, and I loved them. But after just a couple of minutes...she was through and without a peeps worth of notice she jumped...and thankfully I was standing and watching and waiting and caught her. But there was no notice and she just trusted that I would catch her when she was ready to bail.
Trust...we are surrounded by people everyday who are watching us, standing beside us and who try to catch us when we fall....but they are not always so able. It may be distance, or timing, or we just might be out of sight and out of mind....and that someone might not know how to break our fall, or have the strength and the wherewithal to catch us when you jump.
We climb into places everyday without knowing what the consequences will be, or who will be there if we need help getting out or getting down. And God stand there attentively watching, and waiting at our every climbing step. And sometimes he lets us fall...knowing that he will use the fall to better our understanding of His grace and His presence, and His ways. But no matter where we are or how high we climb, or how we have managed to get ourselves up the tree...God is a trusted companion who is able to help us get down....if only we will ask....and accept his guiding advise.
How would you define trust?...I guess I would start by saying trusting someone is depending on someone to follow through with what they have said they would do....it is someone who stays when all others leave....it is someone who who will do their best to catch you if you are falling....or pull you out of a mire that your re sinking in....it is someone who has your back (as my kids would say), someone who listens without judging, someone who seeks your best interest and will not undermine you for the sake of self achievement.
Trusting someone is being able to share secrets and dreams...and feelings that are often not so suitable in positive thinking...I want to be all these things to my friends and my family and even to acquaintances....but I fall short daily in one
area or another. We all do...haven't you ever been abandoned by a friend or a family remember who you though was your trusted ally. It is just human nature for us to fall short...OH BUT GOD...he never falls short, or falls down, of falls away. Being a trusted parent is part of the character that he is made up of. He can't stray because that is who he is..that is a character trait that identifies him. ..and he doesn't change with the winds....His character is cemented into him.
He is who he says he is and can do what he says he can do...and will do what he says he is going to do...No variations....He is God Almighty...
Trust is mentioned in the bible 164 times ... http://www.biblegateway.com/quicksearch/?quicksearch=Trust&qs_version=NIV...
These are a few of my favorite verses... I think if you read them carefully and slowly...they will give you a reminded confidence and security of how God relates to you and to me....He loves us and is a true friend to be trusted...at all times...up a tree, down in the dirt...or sailing with the winds that he has provided..
Psalm 9:10
Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you

Psalm 118:8
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.
Psalm 143:8
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
Jeremiah 17:7
"But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him
Nahum 1:7
The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,
John 14:1
[ Jesus Comforts His Disciples ] "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me
Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
I am grateful for the trust I have been given by those whom I love....but my greatest prayer is that they will trust God always over me....and listen to his whispers and obey his calls. For his trust has no leaking holes...it is solid, guaranteed, and secured with a love that surpasses any feelings or emotions of concerns and cares that we have on this earth.
We are called to be that trusted child in the tree....jumping into the arms of God with a secure trust that he is standing, waiting and watching....just for us to come to Him.and fall into His ways.
Dear Lord, Thank you for your constant presence in all of our lives.
Praise God wherever you are or whatever situation he has allowed you to be in...for His glory will shine through.
