God's Name

I was listening to breaking news on the radio yesterday when a streamed in story regarding a vote on the Democratic Convention floor was taken, and I was in disbelief when a vote of the delegates was called to amend a decision to now include God's name in the platform language when it had previously and deliberately been omitted. The vote was orally called and I heard it first hand, it sounded like there was a tie between the and yes's and the no's.  The vote was called again, as to hear a clearer indication of the crowd,    again the same reaction.  Finally the vote was called a third time, for there had to be a two-thirds vote to pass,  and though it was a remarkably close sound off,  a decision was made by the moderator to pass the vote and incorporate God's name. (Israel was also part of the two part word abandonment but that is far over my head). Though it happens to be a political arena, the story resonates a reality of where we are as a nation. Hearing this made me think about where we have veered as a country, and how the abandonment of not only God's name but His identity as creator and sustainer of all nations has been so greatly distorted.

I know all people do not have the same beliefs, and the topic of God is only relative to those who truly believe in his power and authority, but I have read the bible in its entirety and too many times in the old testament when God was pushed out of the scene and man was left handling things on his own, there were remarkable down-spiraled consequences. We as a nation cannot just arbitrarily think we can politically make a choice to abandon God's name for political or personal purposes and then reinstate it and then expect it to have any true impact, validity or sincerity.  Even we as the people are smarter than that. Either we stand on the truth that God is who he says He is and depend oh Him for provision, direction and security or we reap the consequences.

We are standing on shaky ground as a nation and God has got his eyes on us.  He will make the ultimate decision as to which direction our country will go, and I pray that he will have mercy on us as a country that was originally founded on His principles. It is not in our words but in our actions that speak so very loud to the heavens above.  The oral vote that was taken yesterday was a window into the debate of cultural significance vs Godly providence.  If the name of God itself is a major factor in our political language, and is set apart from sincere conviction, then by God we are in trouble.

May God have mercy upon us, and give us courage to speak out and secure in us a hope that he will not let us as a nation fall further in the abyss of disbelief and apathy. I know that the platform of either party does represent fully our own personal beliefs, for we are varied on many fronts, but I also know that God, as seen in the history of fallen nations and restored nations, will leave us to our own destruction if we do not stand up for His values, seek His direction and humbly submit to His everlasting word. We are, after all, a nation created and established with the understanding that we were one nation under God. But again, the word God continues to be a debated issue even in our constitution.  No matter how anybody spins it, God is and always will be the ultimate overseer.

The name of God on a piece of signed legislation has no validity if what that very name stands for is not sincerely embraced. Just as the name of God has no meaning to any of us unless we have embraced God as a holy entity who has the reigns,  power and authority of all living things. Careful we should be to eliminate the quest to seek HIm and instead make every effort to erase his name.  For if we, as a country continue to make advances to erase God's name, seems like God will make every effort to erase us as a nation, and let us self destruct little chip by little chip. The question is: " Is the name of God a representation of an honest belief in Him and His power and authority,  or is it just a signature of convenience, and a tool of manipulation?"

Psalm 46:10
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalm 66:7
He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations— let not the rebellious rise up against him.
Psalm 29:2
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.
Psalm 102:15
The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory
Psalm 113:2
Let the name of the LORD be praised, both now and forevermore.
Psalm 148:13
Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
Micah 4:5
All the nations may walk in the name of their gods, but we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.

Dear God, Please direct us as a nation according to your will and not ours, and have mercy on us.  May your name be exalted in our nation and throughout the earth.  Amen

Praise God wherever you are and whatever situation He has allowed you to be in . . . His glory will shine through!
