I was invited to attend my grandson Blake's Christmas program at schools' end a couple of weeks ago.... and truly I have not been able to get the last song that they sung out of my head. It is called "Happy Birthday Jesus"....not in the traditional Happy Birthday form or lyrics. And to hear the voices of those precious children singing was so sweet and captivating that it did bring tears to my eyes...given I am a sap but this was just precious.
The lyrics are simple:
Happy Birthday Jesus
I am so glad its Christmas
All the tinsel and lights
and presents are nice,
But the real gift is you!
Happy Birthday Jesus
I am so glad its Christmas
All the chorals and bells
Make the holidays swell
And its all about you.
Happy Birthday Jesus, Jesus I love you!
Not quite the same without tune and voices....(google it and listen to the itune version and you too I think will be touched)..but as I was praying this morning...I thought, we have presents for everyone under the tree except Jesus. Then I veered off to thinking about the stories of gifts of the littlest angel and the little drummer boy...and the shepherds...all simple gifts...heartfelt....no pomp or pompous! And though we have no wrapped present designated under the tree for Jesus...it is our heartfelt gift of praise, recognition, thanksgiving and adoration that surely honor him most.
Often times when I do not know where to start in my prayers..I begin at the beginning of the alphabet and praise Jesus for his many attributes for it shifts my focus from me to HIM. And when I focus on Christ the rest of the world, and all the fuss that I have allowed to consume me takes a quietened back seat.
I know you will have your own adjectives...but these were some that I came up with..
a- awesome, b - bountiful, c - compassionate, consistent, d- deliberate, e- eternal, f - faithful, forgiving, g - filled with grace, h - holy,humble, i - invincible, j - just, joy, k - kindhearted, l - loving, m - merciful, n -nurturing , o - obedient (to his father), p - peace, a promise, patient, q- a quest, quiet, r - righteous, s- savior, t - trustworthy, u- universal, v- victorious, w - wise, x- cellent , y- yielding (as he gave us our own wills) yule-tide (Christmastime), z - zealous
Take time to give Christ a heartfelt gift for his birthday..thank him for your blessings, praise God for his birth...and settle in for a few minutes in the midst of hurried up chaos...and be still and let it just be you and Christ as he opens your gift of humble bearings....and is honored by your silence and willingness to offer to him the recognized blessings within your heart.
Dear Lord, I am glad it is Christmas....I love you Jesus! Amen
This will be my last post for a while. Thank you my friends for joining me as we share in these writings.
Merry Christmas to each of you...and Happy Birthday Jesus!
Praise God wherever you are or whatever situation he has allowed you to be in ...for His glory will shine through!
