She called night before last in tears about news she had just heard from her dear friend. Their son, in his early twenties was found unconscious in his bedroom...rushed to the emergency room...and there her friend and her husband sat waiting...and waiting for the next move. She too is a friend of mine but a distant one who lives in Austin. I know she would want me to call you and ask for prayers, she said. Isn't that what God would have us do when we have been stunned by news that we are not able to safely categorize?
We wake up each morning...just kind of expecting the day to go on as it did the day before...we take it for granted....along with so many other blessings God has given us. But each day is not the same...it may appear to be but we interact with people differently depending upon circumstances, and
relationships, and what is personally going on in our lives...and what is personally going on in theirs. We don't see whole pictures just a tiny glimpse of a moment in time....where God has allowed us to be.... and who he has allowed us to be with. But God does see the whole picture and he knows just what part we are to play in the position he has placed us in. AND....if we are seeking his will, he will guide us into being His encourager, His helper,His messenger, His discerning voice, His comforter, His advocate or even just help us to have a compassionate listening ear even though we have no answers or solutions.
When someone calls for help...we are called to help them...the best way that we know how. And when circumstances are dire, and we have been notified...it is God who is waiting ...for us to come to Him. My friend called again tonight and the news in Austin continues to hold very little hope....and it was told that if her son did come through this he would never be the same... for there is evidence of brain damage that would not be able to be overcome. But the mom in Austin said that even in the midst of all that is known...and suspected ... that she can so clearly see God's hand all around her in the midst of this sadness. God is working....God is there...and he has made His presence known.
We don't have to be in an emergency room to know God is there...He is with each of us everyday no matter what we are dealing with. It could be an extreme sadness as this or merely a bump in our road of comfort. We prayed...we prayed for the child and for his parents..and for the doctors...but when we prayed we also asked God to give us glimpses of how he is working through this. The questions we ask are seldom answered but the God we know always has the answers...sometimes allowing us the privilege of a first hand view and then sometimes leaving us to hold onto a faith that cannot be seen. That faith is what we must have firmly planted so that is continues to grow us through adversities.
In the midst of trials it is hard to find blessings...because we are so many times integrated with the hows to's...how to get through, how to cope, how to know what to do next, how to speak, how to carry on....but God's blessings are in our midst...at all times...we just have to seek hard to find them and stand on them and covet them....and appreciate them....and yes thank God for them.
Today is a different day from yesterday..though it may appear the same. For God has a tendency to place stepping stones in our every day events that will eventually bring us to where he has envisioned us to be. The scenery is subtle in its changes....just as the world turning is subtle in its movement. Time continues on...just as we do. We all need a little help...and God is there to be our helper...and out first step to get closer to him is through our prayers.
Our prayers are the settling agents that present us with God's peace. And when we allow ourselves to unite in prayer for each other...it is there that God gives us the opportunity to see his strength, to be aware of His presence and to faithfully trust in His promises that he will be with us and provide for us....no matter how tragic the situation...or how inadequate we may feel we are. We are His children and there is not a one of us who believes in Him who is not counted as worthy of His love and His devotion.
We all have friends and loved ones who we pray for...and pray with.. and though prayer is audibly spoken by some and quietly lifted by others God hears them all. Prayer is not a tangible gift but is a purest gift of all...when it is done in an earnest and honest attempt to call out for God's hand in a given situation.
Philippians 1:19
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.
Take care to appreciate this day that God has given and seek out His blessings that are before you and know with all of your heart that is you have asked God to partner up with your life then he surely is working on your behalf each day. Watch for prayerful opportunities to come along side of someone who may need them. This was a story of someone I know...but today there was a delivery man who needed prayer for his girlfriend who was trying to be a nurse...If we allows ourselves to be open with others..and have a genuine concern for others....God will use us for His glory....through prayer, in prayer and standing on prayer.
Dear Lord, Please help those who are in need to feel your presence....and help us Lord to be your vessels through prayer, in prayer and standing on prayer. Amen
Praise God wherever you are or whatever situation he has allowed you to be in...for His glory will shine through.
